They are actually 'hair hats' designed by Japanese pop artist and director Nagi Noda (http://www.naginoda.com/top_en.html) who sadly passed away in 2008 at the young age of 35. The idea behind these designs is so innovative and, although you may not go out wearing Noda's hats to your local, I think she will always be remembered partly for the unique vision she conveys through projects such as these. I love it when fashion pushes the boundaries of the normal, especially in Noda's designs where the hat appears to be almost part of an intricate hairstyle and not something that can be put on and taken off again. Unsurprisingly, Lady Gaga is also known for being a fan of the pieces.
