Leather loves

I used to hate the idea of any leather items, bar boots and maybe a nice handbag. That is, until leather became really fashionable to wear and became transposed into all sorts of items; not just your generic leather jacket anymore, but also leather tops, dresses and skirts. So here is my recent purchase from Oasis, a faux-leather skirt that caught my eye due to the softness of the material and the pure versatility of the item (and at £40, quite cheap for such a skirt) I also think the different texture really adds another dimension to an otherwise boring outfit, and is a great way to wear something edgy and different in this winter climate where dressing daringly is becomingly increasingly more difficult:

What affirmed my belief that leather is back for good in clothing, and actually looks amazing too rather than being simply a fashion fad, is this amazing shot I saw on the Copenhagen Street Style blog (http://copenhagenstreetstyle.dk/):

Marcella is wearing a gorgeous dress from...would you believe it...H&M. My favourite brand at the moment strikes again. Looking at her you would think that she is wearing a fully designer ensemble but the fact that H&M can produce such amazing leather (or faux-leather) pieces means that you can work this look and still look a million dollars. I love the simplicity of this outfit, which is so striking at the same times, and I particularly like the head-to-toe camel tones that she is working. In other leather news, I saw these shorts in River Island the other week and was immediately drawn to them due to their cute flower cut-out detailing:

On closer inspection though, they turned out to be made of a really flimsy leather-like material which, for the winter, really won't get you anywhere. Perfect summer shorts though and they really give the leather look a feminine twist.

I've seen a few of these tube scarves around recently in the shops and I love how snug they feel and look. It's a bit of a glorified scarf really, with the only difference being that its got no ends because it is sewn into a loop. However, if like me you try and go wrapped up so tightly so as to not get any cold air in anywhere they are, all in all, the perfect addition to the winter wardrobe. Apparently they're called snoods. This I did not know but I like that word a lot, I think it sounds perfect for the cosiness that these scarves radiate. The ones above are all from Oasis which I think offers the best variety in terms of colour, style and knit for these items, as you can see. Other than that,  here is my pick of the best around at the moment on the high street:

Talking of purchases, as I was going around the shops today, and feeling slightly disappointed about the lack of decent clothes in places such as River Island and New Look, I wandered into Topshop and Miss Selfridge. I haven't been into shops such as these in a long while, firstly due to my current H&M obsession, and secondly, because I find places such as Topshop slightly overpriced. However I was surprised to find these perfect wintry items which I really want to get at some point:

Capes may be old news for some, but I think they have a timeless elegant quality, and for the more trend-conscious, the camel cape gives the opportunity to combine this item with one of this season's hottest colours. The prices are still rather steep, given the fact that you can get decent capes in New Look for around £45, but New Look never seems to have any sizes lower than a 12 which doesn't really help me out.

I've never really been a believer in thigh high boots since most people point out, rightly so, that they can have the tendency to look slightly hooker-ish. I tried these on however, and, with the right coat on top and maybe a long tunic worn over jeans or leggings, paired with these, will look great. For the time being though, I'll keep wishing...
